This is an endorsed qualification which means it is in line with the national curriculum. The Association of First Aiders is the Awarding Body. You will receive the certificate 1-2 weeks after the course has been uploaded and processed by AoFA.
The course is approx 6 hours, start at 09.00 and finish 16.00 with a break in the morning and a lunch time. Tea, coffee and biscuits are available all day, bring your own lunch or get something locally.
Smoking, depending on venue will be in the designated areas. No smoking inhalators that give off vapour will be allowed in the classroom.
The course is a mixture of Power Point, discussion and practical. Wear sensible, comfortable clothing as you will be doing floor work.
Everyone will have a work station consisting of a stuffed dog toy; various sizes, a basket of 1st aid equipment and a workbook with space for you to write in and to take home with you.
There will be no live dogs on the course unless you have a service dog and have already informed us of this
You will be learning Canine CPR on the CasPeR manikins designed specifically, you will have in your kit a facial shield to use while delivering the rescue breaths. The UK has no set standard for Pet CPR so after a lot of investigation I have gone with America/Canada guidelines. Further information can be found at this link
On the course you will learn how to deal with a choking dog whatever the size, bandaging wounds including penetrating objects and eye injuries. You will also learn how to improvise a muzzle and how to deal with shock amongst many other issues.
This course is NOT to be replace going to your Vet, but it will give you the skills and confidence to deal with a First Aid situation if needs be. There will be various First Aid items that you can buy on the day to start your Canine First Aid kit off.
When booking a place we ask for 25% non refundable deposit to be paid, we use PayPal, even if you do not have a PayPal account you can still use this feature. The remainder of the cost can be paid before the start of your course or by cash on the day. Receipts will be given if required.
Certificates will be posted 2nd class so ensure that you give a current address. If you wish the certificate to be posted 1st, recorded or special delivery there will be a relevant charge.
The minimum age for the course is 16 unless agreed prior with the tutor.
